For f(x) = 3/x, the function value tells you how high the curve is. The derivative tells you how steep it is at that point.

The simplified expression has the same values near zero. Its limit is −3/[4·4] = −3/16, even though the original quotient is undefined at zero.
f(4) = 3/4 is a function value.
f′(4) = −3/16 is a tangent slope.
